Welcome to

The Early Years Foundation Stage

We'd like to say a warm welcome to all the children and their parents. Please have a good look around our class web page and school website, there are a lot of lovely photos of the fun activities we do in class and some helpful resources too.

At our school, we celebrate and promote diversity by embracing every individual’s unique background, culture, and perspective, creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and inspired to thrive.

We are all looking forward to learning new things this year. Please read our termly class newsletter and look at our long term/curriculum map to find more detail about what we will be covering as part of our Early Years Foundation Stage cross-curricular approach.

Please see 'dojo' this Autumn term for a regular update of what we have been learning in class plus photos ClassDojo for Teachers

WOW moments will be sent to your individual childs dojo account.  Please share these with your child at home and ask them what they were doing and praise them for their efforts.

As always, if you have any concerns, questions or queries we are always at the door to greet the children each morning as well as when we release the children into your care at the end of the day and available to speak to parents. Please feel free to approach us at collection or drop off as we are always happy to help.

Reception children enter school through their classroom door each morning and collected from this door at the end of the school day.  Staff will only let children leave with parents/carers or the regular grown up that picks them up. If a different adult is collecting them, please tell the Reception staff in the morning or contact the school office by 3pm.

 Long Term Overview

Autumn Term 1

Autumn Newsletter

We have had a super eight weeks in school.  We have read and focused on many texts and used the power of reading scheme to support many aspects of our Literacy teaching.(see the list of books below) Using the Mastery approach has really helped the children have a super start to loving mathematics.(see list below)  We are enjoying the many circle time learning together, making friends and being respectful to our peers.  The extra SCARF/my happy mind lessons are supporting us well and the children are developing a good understanding of the expectations in a school environment. We are drawn 'sketch' face, make our Christmas card, crafted bears and enjoyed many creative learning aspects.  We hope you enjoyed looking through the floor books and discussing your child at parents evening.

Autumn Term 2

We have had a super seven weeks in school.  We particularly enjoyed Rosie and Jim which Mrs Hodgson watched as a child.  We watched clips from 1995! We continue to enjoy our mathematics learning and now can use our eyes to subistise and know 'altogether' and many more important skills to prepare us for later learning throughout school.  We have worked particularly hard in PE and enjoy our warm ups and the importance of exercise.  Our Nativity was fabulous and I hope you enjoyed the many pictures via dojo and have hung your childs face on the tree at home.  We shall be having two workshops next half term and hope you can join us.

Photos from 2025-26

Balance ability was fun - look at us go! We used dinosaur legs, striding, steered carefully and learnt how to be safe.

Pilgrimage - focus this year was 'God's Gift of Water' . We enjoyed a retelling of Noah's Ark by Mrs Taylor along the route and searched for animals to pair up for the ark journey. We had to challenge ourselves as it was up lots of hills and the ground was very uneven. We are very proud of our efforts!

Floor Books - take a a look at our three floor books.  The children love adding to these and they show great pride in what they add.

We are also completing 3 or 4 individual challenges now a week which is amazing.  The children are wanting to improve their own learning and challenge themselves- WOW!!

Incoming......pictures from the nativity, provision, independent challenges and pictures from our floor books.

Useful Information Below

Recommended Reading Books for

Reception Pupils

We are often asked what books to recommend that might suit a Reception pupil. Click on the link below to take you to a site with bags of ideas for suitable reading material.

Obviously, you know your child best; their level of reading ability and what subject matter might be best suited (or avoided) for their own individual needs and beliefs, but this site enables you to click on the book, gain further information about it and will even take you directly to an on-line shop.

Reception children are learning to read and these books are aimed at being books to enjoy together until your child is able to join in with reading some of the words.

Please note; we are not affiliated to the site in any way and the books shown are meant as serve as ideas for your children only .
