Class News and Activities
Meet the Year One Class of 2024!
Our Pilgrimage and Mosque visit
We had a very special Pilgrimage this year! We joined Year Two for our Pilgrimage walk around our beautiful local area and then we travelled by coach to visit the local mosque. We had an excellent time, learning many new things and taking part of lots of different activities- a firm favourite was the treasure hunt!
Our first week
We are settling in beautifully to Year One. Our class reader this half term is 'Augustus and his smile' by Catherine Rayner. To celebrate the start of our story we have been busy trying to run faster than a tiger in the playground (we haven't quite managed it...yet!)
We have also embraced our inner artist, creating our very own fluttery friends, just like Augustus!
Outdoor Learning Day
Brrrr! How chilly was our outdoor learning day? We had fun crunching through the frost and snow searching for signs of Winter. We had to wrap up warm and toasty and a little red robin joined us on our hunt.
Year One is where the 'Wild Things' are!
We have been reading 'Where the Wild Things Are' by Maurice Sendak. We worked in teams to create forest backgrounds, using various collage techniques, and turned our classroom into a sailboat just like Max in the story! We tried to think about how Max must have felt and what he experienced during his journey and used these ideas to create our own written narratives.
After all of our hard work we decided to reward ourselves with an end of term 'Wild Rumpus'! We made wild thing masks and headed out to the vicarage garden to take part in some themed games!
Oh we do love to be beside the seaside!
Year One had an afternoon of seaside fun. We built sandcastles, searched in rock pools, made flags and took part in other beach themed activities- all without leaving the comfort of our very own vicarage garden!
